Measure The Forehead

First up, you’re going to need to measure your forehead length. Grab your measuring tape and place the end at the widest point (the peak of one eyebrow arch). Extend the tape to the adjacent widest point on your forehead, and write this result down. 

Measure The Cheekbones

Now, it’s time to measure your cheekbones. Measure the space between each crest of your cheekbones, which usually lies under the outer corner of your eyes. Once you get this result, write it down. 

Measure The Jawline

To figure out your jawline length, you’ll need to find the widest point (which is usually an inch below your earlobes). Once you find this point, extend the tape down to your chin. Double this measurement instead of measuring both sides, then write it down. 

Measure The Face Length

You’re on the home stretch - face length is one of the easiest to measure. All you need to do is extend the tape measure from the centre of your hairline, down to your chin’s point, then write it down. 

After you’ve carefully and accurately measured your face, you can compare the results to the features of the 7 common face shapes. Remember as you’re comparing the measurements, be sure to focus on the largest one - this is the easiest way to determine your face type. 

Triangle. With the triangle face shape, the biggest measurement will be the jawline, which is then followed by the cheekbones and forehead. For this particular shape, the face length will often differ between people. 

Oblong. Also known as a rectangle face type, an oblong-shaped face will feature similar lengths for the forehead, cheekbones, and jawline. The largest measurement will be the face length. 

Diamond. The face length is also the largest measurement for a diamond face shape. This is followed by the cheekbones, forehead, and jawline. 

Round. The cheekbones and face length have roughly the same size with a round face shape. Both of these measurements are bigger than the jawline and forehead (which will also have a similar measurement). 

Square. The square face shape is easy enough to determine, especially since all the results are roughly the same length. The jawline may also have a slightly sharper appearance. 

Oval. Next up, we have the oval face shape - where the face length is longer than the cheekbones. The jawline length has a slight rounded angle and is smaller than the forehead length. 

Heart. Guys with a heart face shape will see that the forehead length will be bigger than both the jawline and the cheekbones. On top of this, the chin will typically also have a subtle point.
