Movember

Movember

Prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide. Not necessarily topics mates talk about at the pub or at a barbecue. Luckily, Movember gets the conversation started and breaks the silence on issues facing men across the world.

What is prostate cancer?

Prostate cancer occurs when abnormal cells develop in the prostate. These abnormal cells can continue to multiply in an uncontrolled way and sometimes spread outside the prostate into nearby or distant parts of the body. In Australia, 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer before the age of 75.

Not every male will show signs of prostate cancer. A routine check up with your doc will not only give you and your family peace of mind if given the all clear, but if detection is made, steps can be taken sooner rather than later meaning you increase your survival rate. Chat to your doctor next time you’re in to see if testing is right for you.

What is testicular cancer?

Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young men and starts as an abnormal growth or tumour that develops in one or both testicles. There are several types of testicular cancer, but the most common is the germ cell tumour.

Luckily, testicular cancer is treatable and often cured. If you ever notice an unusual lump in your testicle, don’t put off getting it checked. Doctors have seen it all before so there is nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed about.

Real men cry

“Man up”. “Don’t be a sook”. “Grow a pair”. We’ve all heard these phrases, encouraging one to suppress their feelings and toughen up. But how healthy is it to brush over someone’s true emotions? Making them bottle up how they really feel? Not healthy at all. It is okay not to be okay.

Sadly, the number 1 cause of death in Australian men aged 15-44, is suicide. Half of all Aussie men have had a problem with their mental health at some point in their lives. Talking saves lives. If something doesn’t feel right, bring it up with a mate, your misses or partner, your doctor, your brother/sister or parent. Because let’s face it, life can actually be pretty shit at times and things don’t always work out the best for us. Breaking down is not a sign of weakness and reminding yourself that you have made it through every tough time up to now is such an achievement.

Movember

Since the charity started, Movember has been a part of copious amounts of projects and raised hundreds of millions of dollars to fund research into treatment, prevention and support for blokes around the world. Simply by growing (or attempting to grow) a moustache, you can be a part of the solution to help men live happier healthier lives.

 Milkman Mo Stick

Once you’ve started your Movember moustache, you may become attached to your face fluff. In this case, Milkman is here to keep your mo in check with a range of products and tools.  Once the month is over and if you decide to part ways, shaving things to help with the removal process.

Milkman will be donating $10 from each Mo Rescue Kit sold in November.
